So, we know that everything is made up of atoms. But, did you know that an atom is made of mostly empty space? Atoms are too small to see even using a microscope. Scientist have to use scanning electron microscopes to really see and understand atoms. Imagine how difficult it was for scientists to make discoveries about atoms in the 1700’s or 1800’s before technology was around. But, there were many great scientists who laid the foundation of chemistry by observing the world around them and making predictions. Chemistry would not be what it is today without these great visionaries.
Here are a few great scientists from this chapter:
Democritus { } Aristotle { }
Antoine Lavoisier { }
Joseph Louis Proust { }
John Dalton { } Michael Faraday { }
Benjamin Franklin { }
J.J. Thompson { } Robert Millikan { }
Henri Becquerel { } Marie Curie { }
Ernest Rutherford { } Henry Moseley { }
