    Motivation

    Teachers working with middle school students in various settings identified cell phones as one topic that intrigued students.  The principles behind cell phones involve interesting science ideas and mathematical potential.

    History of use

    The anticipated first classroom trials of this module will be in the Steelton-Highspire middle-grades mathematics classrooms in 2004-2005.

    Teachers in the Bellefonte School District will review the modules.

    Credits/disclaimer

    This module was developed under the GE Math Excellence: Math in a “New Technology” Context project, funded by the GE Foundation.  The idea for a module on cell phones came from teachers in Steelton-Highspire School District. Yuexin Liu lent technology context details about cell phones.  The mathematical problems for students were generated by Rose May Zbiek, Shari Heller, and Tracy Boone.  Shari Heller and Tracy Boone developed the curriculum connections.
