Welcome! I am Amie Kretzing and am in my 17th year of teaching. This is my 15th year of teaching third grade at Steelton - Highspire Elementary School. Previously, I taught for two years at West Perry Middle School. (The middle school was a new experience for me as I always wanted to work with younger children. However, I learned to love it!) I love working with third graders and watching them grow from the beginning of the year to the end.
I am a 2003 graduate of Messiah College (go Falcons!) and am kindergarten to sixth grade certified. I also attended Shippensburg University where I earned my Master's degree of Reading in 2007.
I come from a family of teachers as my father used to teach middle school science, my mother was a kindergarten teacher, and my brother currently teaches driver's education at Carlisle High School.
In my spare time I enjoy playing with my two cats, Little Kitty and Buddy, reading, and being outdoors. I love planting flowers each spring and watching them bloom all summer and into the fall. Sports have also been a big part of my life as I enjoy both playing and watching most sports. (I especially love playing basketball and watching the Phils!)
If you have questions or concerns at any point this year please be in touch. Open communication between parents and the school improves the likelihood your child will succeed so I am more than willing to answer any questions you may have! I look forward to a great school year working with and learning from your child.
