Assistant Superintendent

Mr. Willie Slade

Educational Background

I was born and raised in Steelton and graduated from Steelton-Highspire High School in 1988.  After high school I attended The Pennsylvania State University.  I graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice.  I received my Teaching Certificate from Wilson College in 2004.  I received my Masters of Education and Principal Certification in 2006 from California University of Pennsylvania.   I received my Superintendent Certification Letter of Eligibility from Shippensburg University in 2017.

Work Experience

I am currently in my 21st year with the Steelton-Highspire School District.  Prior to working with the school district, I worked for Dauphin County as a Juvenile Probation Officer for nine years.  I spent 2 years as an Intensive Drug and Alcohol Officer and seven years as a School Based Probation Officer. I was among the first School Based Officers in Dauphin County.   I began teaching for the Steelton-Highspire School District as a long term substitute.  I became a full time History teacher in 2004 teaching 7th Grade World History.  I also taught Civics and Local History during my time in the classroom.  In 2006 I became Dean of Students for the High School.  I became an Assistant Principal in 2007 and High School Principal in 2009.  In 2012 I moved to Central Administration as Director of Student Services.  In 2021 I entered my current position of Assistant Superintendent.

Life

In my free time I enjoy golfing and relaxing with friends.  I also enjoyed a long coaching and mentoring career within our community.  I began in 1993 coaching in our youth football program.  I was blessed to get the opportunity to join the Roller Coaching staff in 1999 and spent 21 years with the program.  From 2014 to 2019 I also served as the Athletic Director for the School District.

As a proud graduate of the Steelton-Highspire School District, I am blessed to have the opportunity to give back to the community that gave so much to me.
