    Instructional Coach

Welcome!  My name is Amanda Walk, and I am an Instructional Coach with Steelton-Highspire Jr./Sr. High School.  This is my sixth year here at Steelton-Highspire School District, but I am by no means a stranger to this town.  I am very excited to work with the students, parents, faculty, and staff.

A little educational/professional history about me...
I attended Millersville University where I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science majoring in Secondary English Education.  Shortly after my graduation, I was hired at a small parochial school where I was the Language Arts teacher/Media Specialist.  I then had the great opportunity to move down to Baltimore County, MD to teach at Parkville High School where I taught 9th and 10th grade English. Two years in at Baltimore, and my husband and I decided that we missed home too much, so we came back.  Shortly after our return, I was hired at Steelton-Highspire Jr./Sr. High School as the 8th grade English teacher.  While working in that position for five years, I also recieved my Master's Degree in Literacy Education with a certificate as a Reading Specialist.

A little of what I'm into...
I am an avid reader and writer.  I particularly enjoy books that are fantasy.  I am a huge Harry Potter nerd.  Beware, I will make a least one Harry Potter reference a day.  I also enjoy rock climbing and going to the beach.  Some of my favorite shows are Bones and Grimm. I have also really gotten into making quilts and going for long walks while hunting Pokemon.

How I spend my days at Steelton-Highspire...
Although this year has had a few learning curves, it has been an exciting one as a learn to read and use data to better support education.  I have had the opportunity to work with teachers one-on-one, and see all the amazing things that happen in classrooms both in and outside of my content area.  I also have had the great opportunity to grow as an individual by attending various professional developments and meet others in my brand new field.  I look forward to growing in this position to better serve the students, teachers, and administration at Steelton-Highspire.
