CAIU & UPMC Work Immersion Program
The Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU) and UPMC West Shore have partnered to create a work immersion program, which aims to enhance employment outcomes for students with disabilities.
Students entering the work immersion program will spend their full final school year immersed in UPMC departments, partnering with co-workers, mentors, and program staff to learn duties, explore career interests, and successfully contribute to UPMC business needs.
A typical day includes 1.5 hours of classroom instruction and 5 hours of internship experience in hospital departments.

How It Works
Who Can Apply
- Individuals with an IEP with intellectual or developmental disability
- At least 18 years of age by the start of the program Completed all high school credit and graduation requirements
- Last FULL year of high school eligibility preferred Has agreed that the Work Immersion Program will be their last year of school
- Desire to achieve competitive employment

Community Connections for Children
Community Connections for Children (CCC) serves as the Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC) for Regions 9 & 10, connecting families, child care providers, and communities across Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York Counties.
Our mission is to ensure all families have access to affordable, high-quality early learning opportunities that help children succeed in school and life. CCC supports over 11,000 children and families through programs like Child Care Works and Keystone STARS, while partnering with educators, businesses, and community leaders to strengthen Pennsylvania’s early education system.

Red Strikers Bowling Club
The Red Strikers Bowling Club has been going strong for more than 35 years. It was started by a group of parents looking for activities for their children with special needs. Many of the original members are still bowling each week. This club is run by volunteers, many who are family or friends of a bowler and show up 52 weeks a year to make sure everything runs smoothly.
The club bowls every Saturday at 12 noon. New members are always welcome and you only need to show up at ABC East Lanes between 11:30am-11:45am to join! The cost is $6.00 per week which includes 2 games and shoe rental. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at:

We only have a few rules:
If your bowler needs physical or emotional assistance, you must stay to help them.
We start bowling at 12 noon, please arrive between 11:45 and noon, so you are ready to bowl by start time.
