SHSD Google Workspace for Education Letter

The Steelton-Highspire School District strives to integrate technology into our classrooms as an additional teaching and learning tool. As part of this effort, the district uses Google Workspace for Education and assigns accounts to our staff and students.

Google Workspace for Education is a Google cloud service for schools that allows teachers and students access to word processing, spreadsheets, slide presentation tools, Google drive( an online folder to save documents), and many other tools to allow for collaboration.

Safety and security of our students and their accounts are important to the district. Therefore, these Google accounts reside on our own Google Domain, which is owned by the District and is intended for educational use only. Students are only able to collaborate and communicate with other students and staff whose accounts are within this domain. These accounts also comply with legal requirements for safety and security such as the Child Internet Protection Act and Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.

At the beginning of each school year, students will review expectations and procedures for accessing their Google accounts with their classroom teachers. As a district, we also continuously educate the staff and students on proper use of technology and online resources known as digital citizenship. We recognize you may have additional questions. Therefore, you will find a list of Frequently Asked Questions on the district website:  SHSD Google Apps for Education and Chromebook FAQ
